They have scary associations for some but bats may have been unfairly maligned. 

Especially the smaller microbats which eat cockroaches, mosquitoes and agricultural pests.

The New South Wales government is trying to learn more about them, expanding a program that invites citizen scientists to pay more attention to these secretive creatures.
